Browse the latest bouquets in our collection below

Drying flowers allows you to preserve bouquets which you were gifted or you can create your own dry flower bouquet by assembling fresh flowers yourself. This beautiful craft is worth experimenting, however there are some flowers which dry better than others. By keeping a few things in mind, you will be able to make a dried flower bouquets which will be as beautiful as the fresh one.

Step 1: Choose the correct flowers

  • Sturdy Flowers: The best flowers to dry are the ones which are sturdy, with a small calyx and closely enclosed petals.

  • Full Bloom Flowers: Fresh flowers for bouquets are usually gathered with early bloom buds. If you are looking at drying the flowers already in the bouquet, you will need to wait until the buds open up completely. On the other hand if you are harvesting flowers yourself especially for drying, you need to wait until the blooms open up 90%.

  • Morning Harvesting: Flowers are at their best for harvesting on bright mornings just after the morning dew has evaporated. Move the flowers out of the sunlight immediately after harvesting. This will helps in retaining their vibrant color. Avoid water to clean the petals. Hold them upside down and gently shake them to get rid of any dirt.

  • Long Stemmed Flowers: Long stems of the flowers enable a smooth bundling and drying process.

Step 2: Method to Dry Flowers

  • Microwave: You can dry flowers in minutes instead of days and weeks by using a microwave. One at a time, place the flower to be dried in a microwavable bowl and cover it up with four cups of cat litter. Microwave on high for around 3 minutes.  Once the cat litter is cooled, remove the flower and brush off the excess.

  • Silica gel: If you want your flowers to look like their original self, use silica gel. The sandy-like substance is easily found at craft stores. Bury your flowers in a big container of silica gel. Within a few weeks you will get vibrant, preserved flowers.

  • By pressing: If you want to use dried flowers for stud other than household decorating, use the pressed method. Take an encyclopedia or any heavy book. Cover any page with parchment or wax paper and arrange all the flowers face down so they don’t overlap each other. Close the book and leave it untouched and unopened for almost 10 days. Once all the moisture disappears you have papery textured pressed flowers ready.

  • Air drying: Hanging the bouquets upside down is a traditional method to dry flowers. Bring together all the flowers and tie their stems with a rubber band. Then hang these bunch of flowers upside down in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight. You will notice that the petals shrink and change color, and in a few weeks’ time you’ll have beautiful dried flowers in vintage hues.
